12th Annual Colorado Relay

2009 marks the 12th year for the Colorado Relay and preparations by race organizers and teams are well underway. The race will again proceed from Georgetown to Carbondale and on September 11 and 12 an will again have a shorter sister race (the Colorado Relay Century) for teams who want a shorter challenge but still get the adventure and excitement of a relay race in Colorado in the fall.

The Colorado Relay Classic (the main race) is still 174 miles with trail, dirt road, jeep road, a beaver pond crossing, bike path, the Colorado Trail and 3 high mountain passes sure to take your breath away. We've been diligently asking NASA, NOAA, the NSA and the Weather Channel to provide us with great weather, but so far our requests have not been acknowledged. That said, most years' weather has been very good. Typical Colorado.

Experienced Colorado Relay participants know that the best thing you can do is bring clothes for all weather, pack some comforts and bring a positive attitude.

Congratulations to the Teams of the 2008 Colorado Relay who persevered through the weather on day one of the Colorado Relay. Tough conditions, but we saw lots of smiles to go along with the gritted teeth of determination. Big thank you's to all the teams for staying safe and for the excellent work of the 300+ volunteers who staffed our exchange points, checked in teams directed traffic, kept spirits up and helped us succeed on such a gigantic race course.

The 2009 Colorado Relay Dates are September 11-12, 2009. Registration is open for both alumni teams and new teams.
